7.12.2002 - link

on the way to the dmv, my old russian guy cab driver and i exchanged a bit of witty rapport and before we got to my destination he said to me that he would really enjoy taking me out to dinner and asked if i wouldn't like that as well. i responded by telling him that i didn't think my boyfriend would approve of me spending time with as charming a gentleman as himself and he responded by saying not many boyfriends do.

this leads me to believe that this approach has actually worked on the ladies in the past and that this man coordinates his social outings via his professional obligations. more power to him...and to the boyfriends everywhere who have to compete with his suave demeanor.

just when you thought america was the land of the free and england the home to crusty old guys, the brits have taken a big step towards making pot legal while the americans have decided that water with a little bit of nicotine is not so legal. there's a joke here somewhere involving a revamped tea party revolution, using pot instead of tea and nico water instead of the boston harbor...eh, i've lost it. regardless, well done, old chaps...well done, i say. cheerio!

7.9.2002 - link

my first time on the ocean, in a boat i'm told couldn't possibly capsize or flip, i was taken around the supposedly ominous alcatraz and then on to the seemingly innocuous golden gate bridge. truth be told, alcatraz was entirely accesible and friendly, sunshiney even. the golden gate bridge was, however, temporarily inhabited by men in white workman suits and orange vests, resembling something straight out of a beastie boys video, who we later learned were allegedly there to recover the body of a person who had, not moments before, jumped from the bridge.

future close inspection of our photographs showed no signs of dead people, neither airborn nor submerged. there was a speck of something in the air in a far-away shot of the bridge, but we've begrudgingly deemed it a bird, not a human.

tragic, really.
